The Mel Bay Modern Guitar Series This is where most beginning students should start. Reading standard notation is a skill most guitarists lack... probably because learning to sight read means starting at the beginning, and most intermediate level students aren't willing to sit through "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". If you're just starting out on guitar, this is the way to go - along with a chord book (the Mel Bay book will only teach about 10 chords in volume 1).
