The music industry honors performers, songwriters, arrangers, composers, and others with various awards each year - some well known, some not; some local, others regional, national, or international. We're putting together a listing of awards given to music for you to use for research or motivation.

Academy of Country Music Since 1965. Website lists current winners. They give an award for the best instrumentalist in several categories, including guitar.
American Music Awards Begun in 1971. Site lists nominees and winners for this year.
Aria Awards Annual Australian music awards.
The Billboard Music Awards Official website lists last year's winners, but they aren't keeping it up well... the current (Feb 05) list is for 2003.
Billboard Latin Music Awards Started in 1990. The website lists current nominees and winners.
BMI Awards Since 1998, BMI has recognized the BMI songwriters with the greatest number of performances each year.
Bollywood Music Awards Started in 2000, this honors musical achievement in Indian film.
The BRIT Awards Since 1981, these awards winners have been voted by British listeners. Website shows current nominees and winners.
California Music Awards Established in 1979, these awards are voted on by listeners in California.
The Cammy Awards Established in 1995 by the Carolina Beach Music Association, this honors musicians, radio stations, clubs... even the best roadies.
Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Since 1999, the award for the best music from the native people of Canada.
Country Music Association Awards Since 1968; this official site contains a database of past nominees and winners, and a hall of fame.
Dancestar Established in 2000, these are international awards for dance music.
Detroit Music Awards Given since 1992, these are decided by musicians and industry professionals in the Detroit area.
Dove Awards The awards of the Gospel Music Association, begun in 1970. Website has a searchable database of past winners.
East Coast Music Awards Canadian music awards for the Atlantic provinces. Established in 1984, this must be quite a party - the awards festival includes a 72 hour jam session!
The Grammy Awards Since 1958, this is the award of the Recording Academy. Site has a searchable database of past winners.

The Gramophone Awards Called 'the Oscars of classical music', this has been around since 1977. The website lists the latest winners.
The W.C. Handy Award Since 1980, this is the award for blues music.
The Latin Grammy Awards Established in 2000, these are the Recording Academy's awards for Latin music.
The Mercury Music Prize Annual award for the best album in the UK; established in 1992.
The MOBO Awards Standing for Music of Black Origin, this British award recognizes achievements in R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Gospel, 'UK Garage', and World Music. Been around since 1996.
MTV Asia Awards Popular awards in Asia. The Singapore site is in English.
MTV Europe Awards Annual popular awards in Europe from MTVe.
MTV Video Music Awards Since 1987. This official site has nominees, winners, photos. Some past years have web pages; type the year in after the 'vma/' in the URL to see if a particular year is there.

Ivor Novello Awards Started in 1955, these are the awards of the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers.
