Career Information and Resources
The music business is a BUSINESS like any other; even though it's changed a great deal over the last few years, there are still some common sense business aspects: those who succeed know how to market themselves, make a sale to a music user, keep accurate books for tax purposes, collect the money you're owed, and do effective business/career planning. The resources in this section will help you chart and steer your course.
| Applause Careers in Music |
Applause publishes career guides for music performance and production jobs ($15 each, or $25 for both). The website also has a messageboard for music business questions, finding bands or band members, and buying or selling gear. |
| Buzz Factor |
I've subscribed to the newsletter for some time, and found it had helpful marketing ideas. They also publish several e-books on Music Marketing ($9-27), Making Press Kits ($8), and a directory of PR contacts ($9). |
| Music-Careers.com |
Job bulletin board site for music. Free signup. Not many jobs - when I checked there was exactly one on the site. |
| Songwriter's Guide to Demo Submissions |
This e-book covers where to send demos, how to prepare them, and how to avoid mistakes. $20. |
