The music business is a BUSINESS like any other; even though it's changed a great deal over the last few years, there are still some common sense business aspects: those who succeed know how to market themselves, make a sale to a music user, keep accurate books for tax purposes, collect the money you're owed, and do effective business/career planning. The resources in this section will help you chart and steer your course.

Applause Careers in Music Applause publishes career guides for music performance and production jobs ($15 each, or $25 for both). The website also has a messageboard for music business questions, finding bands or band members, and buying or selling gear.

Buzz Factor I've subscribed to the newsletter for some time, and found it had helpful marketing ideas. They also publish several e-books on Music Marketing ($9-27), Making Press Kits ($8), and a directory of PR contacts ($9).

Music-Careers.com Job bulletin board site for music. Free signup. Not many jobs - when I checked there was exactly one on the site.

Songwriter's Guide to Demo Submissions This e-book covers where to send demos, how to prepare them, and how to avoid mistakes. $20.
